My First Real Love

I’ve recently fallen in love. I have the spring in my step, that twinkle in my eye and yes, I sigh continually. It’s glorious!

At this point the question is, “does he love me?”. In the past, one might’ve pointed me in the direction of an unsuspecting pot of daisies or these days I could quite painlessly take an online “Love Quizz” at a menial fee posted in dollar amounts. Or perhaps Cher was right, it simply is “just in his kiss”.

My friend would always say that if someone loved you, they would let you dip your biscuit into their coffee, which sounds more like it to me.

The more I think about it, the more it becomes clear that food does play a pivotal role in romancing and in love. Think of Lady and the Tramp and their plate of spaghetti and meatballs or those tried and tested directions to a man’s heart. There is no doubt, food certainly has helped many a man, and woman, win over the heart of a loved one.

So perhaps someone should tell Prince Charming to ditch the sword and take the Pinot or tell the world that no one really needs a Taj in white, unless it’s all meringue!

Truth be told, I once thought that there was no purer heart than that of an artichoke, until I found a man who gave me the potato in a pot of left over Biriyani.

  1. Hahaha, I love the South African flavour in this story.

Food is definitely an important part of love for more – especially preparing a meal together. I think in many ways its symbolic of the relationship as a whole, and of the team work aspect that makes a good relationship work. Plus there’s the wine…

  2. mmm, my husband enticed me into a relationship by continually cooking for me, and taking me out to meals, eventually I realised I just wanted to be with him all the time, I’m sure it had something to do with the fact that he fed me…

  3. I have been wooed by sushi recently. It is the best wooing I have ever had! food is the key…
I found myself talking about this entry to my friends and realised how much it had impacted me. Thank you for this happy positive and loving response to love. I needed it and I think all my friends did too. Life can seem so dull and sad at times, so reading this was fantastic and uplifting.
